The Search For Truth

I love Surprised by Joy simply because it follows Lewis's spiritual journey until his conversion.  While his slow intellectually based conversion may not be the typical route we take on our paths back to God, but it is nevertheless still a valid one.

What strikes me as most fascinating is that he found a sort of exhilarating thrill in Norse mythology.  I love that his fascination with the gods of ancient cultures led him to examine what he believed and what it was that these gods offered.

Every religion has bits of truth within their respective teachings that correctly describe the true God and His Gospel.  These religions and mythologies like the imagination itself "reflect heavenly truth."  The key is to recognize that what they are giving us is only a reflection.

Real seekers of truth long to have their questions answered.  And as they seek God out, while He is just as actively seeking us, we come to quickly identify what parts of our own journey and beliefs ought to be pursued and what ones should be abandoned.  The reflections begin to give way to a clearer, more beautiful picture.  Before we know it we find ourselves facing God in all His glory.

Each path is going to be different.  Each one is going to be uniquely difficult and beautiful.  But each one is also going to be majestic and full of awe.
