GRE Down - Vet School, Here I Come!!!
Friday I took the GRE. And wow. That was an experience. Five hour tests are no fun. But I KILLED it! And it felt great. They give you a score range at the end of the test and even if I get the low end of my range I am in good standing to get into Vet School. Which is good. Because thanks to Utah State's new addition, it is now very difficult for me to get into Vet School. Basically I'm going to be applying EVERYWHERE just hoping to get in somewhere decent. So far my top choices are these:
1. North Carolina State University - Ranked #3, they have the most amazing program. And they are the only school I've seen with a dedicated Zoo Medicine Track so I am hoping to get in there! Unfortunately there are only 18 spots for out-of-stater-ers like me and the average GPA for those who are accepted is 3.90. Mine's not too far off, but it's not a 3.9. Thank goodness for my GRE!
2. Colorado State University - Tied for #3 with North Carolina, they were my dream school until Utah State ruined my dreams of WICHE tuition. $50,000 a year seems a tad too steep for me. A few of SeaWorld's vets have come through here so that's pretty cool, but they do not have a designated exotics program for exotics quite like that at NC State.
3. University of Florida - Ranked #12, this school has some exotic and aquatic animal programs, but not to the extent that NC State does. But one of the guys in my lab did his undergrad work here and has convinced me that it is pretty nice to be a gator!
4. Texas A&M University - Coming in at #8, Dr. Roeder apparently has some leverage down there in the Lone Star State and might be able to get me In-State Tuition. Which is awesome. But now I have to take BioChem 2 next semester and I'm not excited about it. But hey, if it saves me thousands of dollars, it's probably worth it. And there's this really cool marine mammal rescue program I could help out with if I was down there.
Those were the lucky four schools who are getting my GRE scores anyway. But I'll be applying to others for sure. Oregon State, Washington State, Kansas State, Cornell, U Penn and probably even UC Davis are all likely schools I'll be applying to.
So stay tuned. Cause the application adventure starts next year. And you're definitely going to be hearing about it!
